April 8, Dushanbe, Tajikistan - PDV Project funded by the Swiss Government and implemented by GOPA mbH Branch in Tajikistan in cooperation with the Committee on Women and Family Affairs under the Government of RT organized Republican Conference "Countering Domestic Violence - Achievements, Challenges and Continuity of Efforts".

Objective: exchange of information on positive experience, challenges in the implementation of state policy on the prevention of domestic violence, the results of cooperation between state and non-governmental organizations in combating domestic violence for 2019-2021 and ensuring continuity of efforts for further effective targeted activities to discuss development and institutionalization of mechanisms for inter-agency cooperation in the field of counteraction of domestic violence in Tajikistan.

The event brought together the governmental structures involved in implementation of the Law on Prevention of Violence in the Family presented by the Committee on Women and Family Affairs, the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Population, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Education and Science, Ministry of Justice, Hukumat of Khatlon region, the Committee of religion and regulation of traditions and ceremonies under the Government of Tajikistan, Committee on Youth and Sports under the Government of RT, Committee on Local Development, Academy of Public Administration under the President of RT.

During the Conference the state bodies discussed the partnership on the improvement and implementation of legislation of RT on prevention of domestic violence for the period of October 2019 – March 2021 and provided further recommendations for joint action in taking measures against violence in the family in Tajikistan.   

In the conclusion of the Conference Mrs. Elena Maximenco, Director of GOPA Branch mbH in RT made a presentation on Contribution of the PDV project in supporting state policies and strategies in combating domestic violence for 2019-2021 highlighting successes, challenges and continuity of efforts.

On the occasion of the Day of the social protection of the population worker celebrated in the Republic of Tajikistan on 25th of January, Mr. J. Abdullozoda, the Minister of Health and Social Protection of the Population, has officially awarded Branch of GOPA mbH in Tajikistan/PDV Project with the Letter of gratitude for contribution to the development of social sector and establishment of social services for vulnerable social groups of population based on the MoHSPP Order №66 as of 22.01.2021.

The Branch of GOPA mbH in Tajikistan implements its activities in cooperation with the MoHSPP on the basis of the Memorandum of Understanding singed in 2016 and annual joint action plans aimed at implementation of the Tajik Law and State Program on prevention of violence in the family as well as , improvement of the regulatory framework and provision of direct support to the victims of domestic violence in Tajikistan.

During the period 8 - 11 December PDV Project funded by the Swiss Government and implemented by GOPA Branch mbH in Tajikistan in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Science  conducted a series of trainings on the role of the school psychologists in prevention of violence in the family for the school psychologists and teachers of Khatlon region in Kulyab and Bohtar.

The goal of the training was to build capacity of school psychologists in identification of children-victims of domestic violence and further provision of psychological support as well as implementation of activities on prevention of violence in the family.

During the training the participants learnt about the phenomenon of domestic violence, the existing stereotypes and its consequences as well as the laws and regulations related to domestic violence for the general education institutions. The participants were also introduced to methodical aspects of activities for school psychologists including the management of cases of domestic violence towards children.

Similar trainings were conducted for SOGD participants in Khujand during 10-11 November 2020.
