The first meeting of the working group on strengthening the role of the educational institutions of the country in cultivating non-violent relations in the family and among the peers under the Ministry of Education and Science of RT was conducted in the premises of the republican brunch of the state institution Employees Capacity Building and Retraining Institute of the Ministry of Education and Science (Dushanbe) on September 28, 2017. The representatives of the ministry and its subordinating structures as well as representatives of the Committee on Women and Family Affaires, Population Reproductive Health Center, public organizations and national and international experts on combating violence in the family were participants of the meeting. There the aspects of increasing role of the schools in formation of non-violent culture in young people in\out of the framework of the family, including through enhancing teaching methods of the compulsory school subject Family Culture were discussed and a similar experience in the other countries were learned during the meeting.  The PDV Project, which is implemented by the GOPA brunch in Tajikistan with the financial support of the Swiss Government based on the agreement signed (11.01.2017) between MoES and the PDV Project on cooperation in the sphere of prevention of violence in the family in the Republic of Tajikistan, provided the expert and technical aid for conduction of the meeting.

Conference of the intersectoral working groups on prevention of violence in the family from the Khatlon Region
First Conference of the intersectoral working groups on prevention of violence in the family from the Khatlon Region took place in Kurgan-tube city by the support of the Hukumat of the Khatlon Region and with the assistance of the PDV Project in the Republic of Tajikistan on September 21-22, 2017.  The convention was dedicated to The first steps of the institutionalized intersectoral cooperation at the local level in combating violence in the family exchange of the positive experiences and perspectives of further activities.  The participants of the convention were members of the 10 specialized intersectoral working groups established in 2017 by the directive of the Hukumat of the Khatlon Region as well as Hukumats of Kurgan-tube city and a number of the districts (Khuroson, Hamadoni, Bokhtar, Balkhi, Sarband, Vakhsh, Shahrituz, Panj) and formed to implement the State Program on Prevention of Violence in the Family for 2014-2023 in the Republic of Tajikistan. The members of the 10 working groups, which represented various state territorial structures\agencies (and were the subjects on implementation of the Law on Prevention of Violence in the Family), and the public organizations had an opportunity to exchange information on the work accomplished for the last months on combating violence in the family in their regions, as well as to develop preliminary activities for the Activities Plan of the intersectoral working groups on implementation of the State Program on Prevention of Violence in the Family for 2018.

Considerable part of the ninth phase of the Project on Prevention of Domestic Violence (PDV) in the Republic of Tajikistan, which is implemented by the financial support of the Swiss Government, consists of the activities aimed at capacity building of all the specialists- representatives of the state structures-subjects of implementation of the Law on Prevention of Violence in the Family as well as religious leaders, chairpersons of the mahalla committees, journalists and civil society of Dushanbe city and Khatlon Region involved in combating violence in the family.

Thus, there a 3-day-training for the trainers (TOT) was conducted by the international expert from Moldova in the building of the Republican Clinical Family Medicine Center under the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of Population (MHSPP) from 07 to 09 August of 2017. In total 22 specialists representing family doctors, obstetricians and forensic experts were trained in the training.  During the training the aspects of domestic violence (DV) and its impact on the public health problems, role of medical workers in response to and prevention of domestic violence, laws and normative acts related to support and protection of the DV victims, rights of the DV victims, determination of the DV cases, signs of domestic violence were thoroughly reviewed.  A special attention was given to the approach to dealing with the DV victims. This approach is focused, first of all, on the interests of the victims and is based on observation of the human rights.  Additionally, there were raised such issues as medical examination, emergency contraception, prevention\treatment of STD, prevention of HIV, treatment of traumas and psychological aid to the DV victims.

The concluding part of the training was devoted to mapping of the services at the local level and development of the local referral system.

The specialists, who went through this training, conduct, as trainers, series of similar trainings for 250 specialists in Dushanbe and pilot districts of the project from 14 August to 16 September 2017.    

There were trainings conducted also for 200 militia area officers and inspectors on domestic violence on the topic of Instructions for organization of work of the law enforcement bodies aimed at prevention, elimination of and response to the DV cases in the project districts of Khatlon Region and Dushanbe city in the period from July 29 to August 12.  The agenda of the training included such issues as determination of domestic violence and its types, principles of work of the law enforcement bodies and their authorities in prevention, elimination of and response to the DV cases as well as referral system for the DV victims.

June 1 - International Children's Day is celebrated annually throughout the world. Children's Day was established in 1949 by the Democratic Federation of Women Congress in Paris and was first celebrated in 1950. Since then various activities initiated by the United Nations are held around the world every year to raise awareness on childrens rights.

To celebrate the International Childrens Day PDV together with PO Hamroz and local authorities conducted a school sports event for the grade students of the Gymnasium No.3 in Jamoat Zargar, Bohtar district. The schoolchildren divided in four teams participated in mixed relay, including sack racing, skip jumping, rope pulling and other competition activities under the slogan Children choose family free of violence. Upon the completion of the event, the winners received first-place medals and presents and all other participating children received second- and third-place medals and presents.

The considerable part of the ninth phase of the Project on Prevention of Domestic Violence  (PDV) in the Republic of Tajikistan implemented by the financial support of the Swiss Government is devoted to the activities on capacity building of all specialists involved in combating violence in the family. These specialists represent the state structures-subjects on implementation of the Law on Prevention of Violence in the Family, as well as religious leaders, chairpersons of the mahalla committees, journalists and the civil society in Dushanbe city and Khatlon Region.      
Thus, there were series of trainings implemented in April May of 2017 in cooperation with the Hukumat of Khatlon Region and with assistance of the Directorate on Women and Family Affairs of Khatlon Region. The trainings were on Complex approach to combating domestic violence- uniting efforts to prevent the phenomenon and support the victims. There were 25 specialists from the departments on women and family affairs from all the districts of the Khatlon Region (April 25-26), 155 specialists of the recently established 10 multidisciplinary working groups on combating domestic violence in Kurgan-tube, Pyanj, Dushanbe and district centers of Khatlon Region (Bokhtar, Sarband, Khuroson, Vakhsh, Balkhi, Hamadoni, Shahrituz) participating in these trainings.  The aim of the trainings were to increase capacity of the specialists through strengthening of the theoretical knowledge on the phenomenon of domestic violence (DV) and practical skills related to strengthening of the intersectoral approach in provision of complex aid and protection to the victims of domestic violence, as well as exchange of the best international and national experiences in this sphere.  
Additionally, there was a training conducted in Kurgan-tube on April 22, 2017 for the practicing journalists on the topic Reflection of the domestic violence theme in mass media realities and perspectives, where 18 journalists representing various mass media from Khatlon Region and Kurgan-tube city participated. The topic of the training related to the specifics and role of mass media in reflection of the DV phenomenon, professional contribution of the journalists to the support and implementation of the information campaigns on combating DV in RT, ethical aspects of interviewing the victims of violence, description of the violence cases in the printed media and development of audio-video programs on the topic.  Annually, the PDV project in the Republic of Tajikistan conducts competitions for the practicing journalists on the aspects of reflection of DV topic in the mass media. This training allowed also the leading journalists to share their advanced experiences in this area.  
Besides, the PDV project in cooperation with UNDP and Legal Aid Center under the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Tajikistan implemented trainings on Provision of legal aid to the victims of domestic violence from the theory to practice on May 23-24, 2017.  The aim of the training was to increase capacity of the lawyers on the practical aspects of provision of the primary legal aid to the victims of domestic violence in RT.
