On May 12 Project on Prevention of Domestic Violence funded by the Swiss Government and implemented by GOPA mbH in Tajikistan organized a festive event on the occasion of the International Day of Families in cooperation with HELVETAS Tajikistan and Committee on Women and Family Affairs and Committee on Youth and Sports. The celebration took place in the Botanical Garden of Dushanbe and included sports competitions aimed at building family team spirit and legal quizzes to raise awareness on family law, domestic violence and the significance of family as a social institution. In conclusion of the event a theatre show related to family issues was performed and followed by lively discussion with the participants of the event.

Similar event was held in Bokhtar on May 15 with participation of the Crisis Center Ghamkhori in cooperation with the Department of Women and Family Affairs under the Khukumat of Boktar.

May 15 is the International Day of Families, proclaimed by the UN General Assembly in 1993 with resolution A/RES/47/237. The day reflects the importance the international community attaches to families and provides an opportunity to increase knowledge of the social, economic and demographic processes affecting families

March 7 - Social activity dedicated to the International Women's Day and Mother's Day of RT was held in the Dushanbe Mall aimed at raising awareness of the population on the Family Law and women's rights. It was implemented by the PDV Project and Helvetas in Tajikistan supported financially by the Swiss Government in cooperation with the Committee on Women and Family Affairs and with participation of the public organization “Bovari ba Fardo”.  
There was a quiz on knowledge of rights and obligations of the couples, marriage registration and divorce procedures, the issues concerning upbringing of children etc.  Every answer to the questions of the quiz was accompanied by the comments of the lawyers who provided also free of charge legal consultations during the event.  At the end the participants were provided with some prizes, i.e. tickets and certificates to cinema, spa salon and fashion shops.    
At the end of the event a drama play on family issues was shown by the students of the Art Institute named after M. Tursunzade.    
The aim of the event was to remind the beautiful part of the population about the fact that March 8 is not only a spring holiday, but also a day of fight for the rights of women.

These trainings were conducted according to the Order of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Population of the Republic of Tajikistan #64 dated from January 25 2018  “On conduction of trainings” for the mid-level employees of the health system of the Republic of Tajikistan.  
There totally 15 trainings (9 trainings for the specialists of Dushanbe and 6 trainings for the specialists from Khatlon region) were conducted for the mid-level health employees. Overall 300 specialists were trained there, out of whom 180 specialists were from Dushanbe (nurses - 165, midwifes – 15, men – 1) and 120 specialists (nurses – 115, midwifes – 5, men – 4) from the pilot districts of Khatlon region.  
In the workshop for the mid-level health employees totally 300 specialists were trained, of whom 280 were medical nurses and 20 midwifes; 295 women and 5 men.  
The trainings were conducted in the Republican Clinical Training Center for nurses (Dushanbe) and Regional Clinical Training Center for Family Medicine (Kurgan-tube).
The main aim of the trainings was to increase potential of the mid-level health employees on response to the cases of violence in the family in the Republic of Tajikistan. The best international and national experiences in introduction of medical aid to the victims of violence in the family were presented to the participants of the training.  There a training module developed by the international expert of the PDV|GOPA Project and approved by the order of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection dated from January 24, 2018, # 61 was used for the trainings.  
Alongside the trained national trainers (07-09 August 2017) the sessions were conducted by the leading national experts-specialists having experience of working with the victims of  domestic violence –psychologist Yunusova N.M, lawyers of the Crisis center-N.Kadirov and M. Huseinov, as well as a psychologist, social worker and lawyer of the Crisis Center “Ghamkhori”.  The interest of the participants to the violence in the family problem and their active participation during the training should be noted.  The participants asked many questions on the domestic violence cases, actions of the mid-level health staff when facing in their practice victims of domestic violence.
During the training, it was revealed that majority of the participants were not aware of the national laws and normative acts concerning help and protection of the victims of violence in the family and rights of the DV victims.  Therefore, these trainings have become important in terms of improving understanding of judicial difficulties for the victims of violence in the family and role of the medical personnel which works with this problem.  This is necessary also to reduce stigmatization and discrimination of the victims of domestic violence.
Developing skills to reveal signs of exposion to violence and developing questions on violence in the family, as well as importance of providing the first basic aid to the victims of domestic violence were stressed by the training.   During the session the peculiarities of medical examination, referring victims to register the beatings within the framework of the forensic expertise were discussed.   There were discussed also the issues concerning prevention of STD/HIV and emergency contraception.  The issues related to correct documentation of the violence cases were looked at.
During the trainings, the international recommendations based on the evidence of providing medical aid to the victims of violence were reviewed.
There a big importance was given to the provision of psychological aid to the victims of violence.  During the trainings the knowledge concerning revealing signs of psychological disturbance in the victims, provision of effective psychological measures/psychotherapeutic support to the victims was raised.    
The participants worked also with the issues concerning risk assessments, safety planning, social and legal aid and interagency reference system.
The participants expressed their gratitude especially for the provision of materials to them by the training, including for receiving normative-legal acts on the violence in the family issue, contact details of the responsible employees of the Committee/Directorates and Departments on Women and Family Affaires, NGO and Crisis centers which work with the victims of violence, contact details of the persons in charge from the law enforcement structures etc.  
Analysis of the ‘before’ and ‘after’ questionnaires has shown a considerable progress in knowledge of the participants after completion of the trainings. The average grade of the questionnaire before the training was 52,0%  and  the average grade of the questionnaire after the training made 90,2%.
At the end the participants expressed their gratitude to the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Republic of Tajikistan and project on “Prevention of Domestic Violence in RT” (PDV/GOPA) for timely and topical training and expressed their readiness to introduce the knowledge and skills received in their practical activity.  

The 2017 contest on best media product was announced in July and the award ceremony was held on 28 February  upon the decision of the review committee comprised of the representatives of the Committee on Women and Family Affairs, PDV and independent media expert. Six journalists received money prices for the best media products in the following categories:

•         Best newspaper article –  Azamat Ashurov, Kulyabskaya Pravda and Abdughaffori Kamol, Newspaper Ozodagon
•         Best radio program – Mosharif Holikzoda, Radio Tojikiston and Orzu Ashurov, Radio Sadoi Dushanbe
•         Best TV report – Rajabova Gulchehra, TV Jahonnamo
•         Best TV talk-show  -  Nilufari Karim, TV Tojikiston

Additionally six more participants of the contest were awarded with incentive prizes.

National contest for best mass media product highlighting issues of domestic violence was initiated in 2010 by the Project on Prevention of Domestic Violence (PDV) under financial support of the Swiss Government. The overall objective of the contest is to improve the access to quality preventive communication, to produce maximum number of articles, radio and TV programmes on domestic violence issues and to raise public awareness through mass media in order to attract governmental agencies, civil societies, and population of Tajikistan towards this problem.

Coordination Committee meeting was conducted on November 30, 2017 in the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Dushanbe, with participation of the representatives of the donor of the project - the Swiss Cooperation Office and representatives of the Committee on Women and Family Affairs under the Government of RT, Ministry of Internal Affairs of RT, Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Population of RT, Ministry of Education and Science of RT, Ministry of Justice of RT, Committee on Religion and Regulation of Traditions under the Government of RT, Committee on Youth and Sport under the Government of RT, Hukumat of Khatlon Region and a number of the international organizations such as Helvetas, UNDP, UNFPA etc.  The aim of the meeting was integration of the efforts to support implementation of the Law on Prevention of Violence in the Family and the State Program on Prevention of Domestic Violence in the Family in Tajikistan for 2014-2023. During the meeting, the state structures presented the results of the joint activities with the Project on Prevention of Domestic Violence (PDV), noting achievements and challenges of 2017.

Furthermore the meeting participants were engaged in development of the detailed work plan for 2018 on implementation of the Law on Prevention of Violence in the Family and the State Program on Prevention of Domestic Violence in the Family in Tajikistan based on the agreed with PDV/GOPA in RT joint actions plans for 2017-2019.

In the second part of the meeting, Elena Maksimenko, the Director of the PDV\GOPA branch, presented the review of the project results for the current year and the planned activities for the year 2018.   Also a consultative work was fulfilled to develop proposals for cooperation of the project and strategic partners aiming at further institutionalization of the efforts on prevention of domestic violence in the family in the Republic of Tajikistan.
